How Important Are B-6, B-12 Vitamins And Folic Acid

How Important Are B-6, B-12 Vitamins And Folic Acid

What is homocysteine?

Homocysteine is an amino acid that occurs naturally in your body as it processes protein. According to Dr. McCully:

“When there is too much homocysteine in the blood, arteries are damaged and plaques form. The result is arteriosclerosis and heart disease. This happens when we don’t get enough of certain vitamins—namely B-6, B-12, and folic acid. These B vitamins are missing in our diets because processing and refining foods (think white flour, sugar, and canning) destroys these sensitive vitamins.”

The Heart Revolution by Kilmer S. McCully, M.D,
For many years, clogged arteries were thought to be the cause of heart disease, but the clogging itself only comes about as a result of the damage caused by homocysteine. The theory has been assessed in several scientific studies.

The Physicians’ Health Study showed that, “Men with plasma homocysteine concentrations that were 12 percent above the upper limit of normal had approximately a threefold increase in the risk of myocardial infarction, as compared with those with lower levels, even after correction for other risk factors.”

From Homocysteine and Atherothrombosis - By George N. Welch, M.D., and Joseph
Loscalzo, M.D., Ph.D., The New England Journal of Medicine, Vol. 338, No.15

It is now widely acknowledged by scientists that pure cholesterol does not cause arteriosclerosis and that elevation of blood cholesterol is a symptom, not a cause of heart disease.

Your diet is a critical part of the equation.
You may be asking yourself: if cholesterol is a symptom, rather than a cause of heart disease, why aren’t the French in the same boat?

The answer lies in our Western diet and poor lifestyle habits. Think about all the fast food restaurants, convenience stores filled with junk food, or even the over-processed foods that sit on the shelves of every grocery store—this food has little or no nutritional value. Yet, it has become a part of the lifestyle in North America, whereas in France, fast and over-processed food is only beginning to make its way into their cuisine.

Our fast food mindset—combined with the depletion of vital minerals in our soils—has led to multiple deficiencies of essential nutrients. And due to our poor health choices, North Americans are generally depleted of the essential B vitamins.

And without the B vitamins, homocysteine becomes toxic and damages your artery walls, practically inviting fats and cholesterol to stick around.
Other factors, of course, can increase homocysteine in your blood, including your genetic background, certain drugs, aging, hormonal changes such as menopause, smoking, how little you exercise, diabetes, and high blood pressure.

You can’t control all these things, but you can do something about your diet. The American Heart Association strongly advises patients at high risk for heart disease “to be sure to get enough folic acid and vitamins B-6 and B-12 in their diet. They should eat at least five servings of fruits and green, leafy vegetables daily."

The B Vitamin Connection

The B Vitamin Connection

Reduce Your Risk of Heart Disease

If you are at risk for or have even been diagnosed with heart disease, you’re probably very concerned about your cholesterol level. You can hardly turn on your radio, pick up a magazine, or watch your television set without being bombarded, not only by information about cholesterol and heart disease, but also by hundreds of ads for prescription medications promising to lower your cholesterol.

But, cholesterol may have less to do with heart disease than you think. Consider this: if heart attacks are caused by high fat, high cholesterol diets, why do many heart attack victims have normal cholesterol levels?

Also, French cuisine is notoriously rich in fat and cholesterol, but the French have less than half the heart attacks that occur per capita in North America.

How can we explain that? Highly regarded physician and scientist, Dr. Kilmer McCully asked himself the same thing.

Realizing that the cholesterol theory of heart disease had never been proven—even after 85 years of research—Dr. McCully began to look for a different explanation. Beginning in 1968 and continuing throughout his practice and professorship at Harvard and Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. McCully developed a new scientific explanation for the cause of clogged arteries. His theory was revolutionary because it presented elevated homocysteine concentrations in the blood as the unrecognized cause of heart disease and arteriosclerosis.

It is now widely acknowledged by scientists that pure cholesterol does not cause arteriosclerosis and that elevation of blood cholesterol is a symptom, not a cause of heart disease.

Vitamin B-12 And Memory Loss

Vitamin B-12 And Memory Loss

Are you worried about memory loss?

You may have laughed at jokes and stories of others—but if you've ever wandered through a parking lot looking for your car, or fumbled through the house to find your glasses, you know the frightening reality of not being able to control your memory.
In fact, the loss of mental abilities is one of the most fear-evoking aspects of aging.

The idea of forgetting what we said five minutes ago, not recognizing the faces of our most loved ones, or continually misplacing things can be terrifying!

There is a "miracle" that can help your memory as you age!
The miracle is vitamin B-12, a common vitamin found in everyday foods and multivitamins that you may already be taking. B-12 is extremely vital in brain and nerve function—playing an integral part in memory. However, according to medical science, as you age, your body's ability to absorb vitamin B-12 through food and pills decreases. In fact, many adults may be unable to absorb vitamin B at all and have to receive expensive B-12 shots each month!

Now there is something that works like a B-12 shot —
without the expense and pain of an injection! People have experienced amazing results with B-12 shots over the years. But now, there is something more convenient than a B-12 shot . Dr. Libby's original, patented Sublingual B-12, B-6 & Folic Acid from TriVita gives you all the B-12 you need—so you avoid the pain and expense of an injection.

Do pregnant and/or lactating women need extra Vitamin B12?

Do pregnant and/or lactating women need extra Vitamin B12?

During pregnancy, nutrients travel from mother to fetus through the placenta. Vitamin B12, like other nutrients, is transferred across the placenta during pregnancy. Breast-fed infants receive their nutrition, including vitamin B12, through breast milk.
Vitamin B12 deficiency in infants is rare but can occur as a result of maternal insufficiency. For example, breast-fed infants of women who follow strict vegetarian diets have very limited reserves of vitamin B12 and can develop a vitamin B12 deficiency within months of birth.

This is of particular concern because undetected and untreated vitamin B12 deficiency in infants can result in permanent neurologic damage. Consequences of such neurologic damage are severe and can be irreversible. Mothers who follow a strict vegetarian diet should consult with a pediatrician regarding appropriate use of vitamin B12 supplements for their infants and children. They should also discuss with their personal physician their own need for vitamin B12 supplements.

The Vitamin B-12 Solution

The Vitamin B-12 Solution

Want More Energy?

You may be missing this important and simple solution. We've all heard it—get plenty of rest, exercise regularly, eat healthy, and you'll have energy to burn. True? False! In fact, many adults who live healthy lifestyles are still frustrated by the lack of energy they feel. That's because many adults are missing an important but simple solution to having more energy—vitamin B-12.

This simple vitamin, common to everyday foods and multivitamins, is crucial to ENERGY. BUT, the question you must ask yourself is:

"Is my body getting the B-12 it needs for energy?"

Medical science has answered this question. And the experts agree that as you get older, your ability to absorb B-12 through digestion continually decreases. In fact, many adults are unable to absorb B-12 into their body at all! Even more, a depletion of vitamin B-12 can be detrimental to your health. Why? Because B-12 plays a key role in the production of chemicals that help regulate sleep, mood, appetite, and ENERGY!

Here is the important, simple solution to get the B-12 you need. In 1984, a patent was awarded to Dr. Alfred Libby, M.D. for his formulation of Sublingual B-12. Dr. Libby also added B-6 and folic acid to enhance the medical benefits of the Sublingual B-12. This original Sublingual B-12 melts under your tongue and speeds the essential B nutrients directly into your bloodstream where they immediately begin to help your body.

TriVita's Sublingual B-12, B-6 & Folic Acid was developed for maximum absorption and goes directly into your bloodstream.
